NYY agrees.... I gain some salary and lose Cain. But i think Halladay is very good as well and i also get my much needed established bat in Jones.

Does Garden State even have 12M to give in the deal?
I don't think they do, but if they did, the Padres would take on roughly 11 million in salary for the rest of the season given that they're trading 3M in salary and getting 12M in cash. However, I think that point's moot.

yeah but the pads are already in debt why would they take on even more salary...that's his choice if he wants i just odn't see the logic. and i'm pretty sure the jays don't have the money as you said.

Well, the Padres also have a lot of money coming off the books at the end of the season, so from that standpoint payroll-wise they would have essentially replaced Chan Ho Park with Roy Halladay for the future. That and playoff revenue would've helped with being overbudget. Unfortunately, the trade doesn't work anyway with the cash hangup.
